Dr. Brett Birnbaum, PT, DPT
Brett is a Physical Therapist and the founder of Total Performance Physical Therapy. He grew up in New Jersey, earned his B.S in Movement Science from the University of Michigan, and his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Stony Brook University in Long Island, NY. Throughout his undergraduate and doctoral education, Brett completed internships at Annex Sports Performance and COVAL Fitness, as well as clinical rotations at Resilient Performance Physical Therapy and Rehab 2 Perform.
These experiences have provided Brett with an extensive background not only in rehabilitation, but also in strength and conditioning, sports performance, personal training, and fitness. This expertise allows Brett to help people throughout the entire rehab and performance continuum, bridging the gap between initial rehab and a full return to an active and healthy lifestyle.
Brett is passionate about helping his patients achieve their full potential. He is not satisfied with arbitrary, low-level standards of function that are becoming increasingly common. His main goal as a physical therapist is to ensure his patients never have to “settle for less,” but instead feel empowered to achieve their highest levels of performance.
Dr. lindsay butterfield, pt, dpt, ocs
Lindsay graduated with a B.S. in Exercise Science from Western Michigan University and went on to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from New York University. She spent the first 7 years of her career practicing in New York City, collaborating with top orthopedic doctors and working with young athletes to aging adults. She played collegiate lacrosse at Western Michigan University and has also competed in volleyball and softball.
Lindsay has special interests in orthopedic and sports-related injuries, with additional focused expertise in perinatal care and orthopedic-based treatment of the pelvic floor. She enjoys working with women across the entire spectrum—from prepartum through pregnancy and into the postpartum period—helping them feel strong, supported, and empowered throughout each stage.
She became a Board-Certified Orthopedic Specialist in 2021.
When she isn’t working, Lindsay enjoys weightlifting, watching football, and spending time outdoors with her family and dog, Frank.
Brett may own Total Performance, but Riley is the real boss around here. She’s an experienced gym dog, getting her start at just 6 months old, and has been a client-favorite since day 1. In fact, forget the cool gym equipment or Brett and Lindsay’s expertise, Riley is really the main attraction around here.
Riley’s main jobs include giving a big ole welcome greeting when you walk in, showing off her favorite tennis ball (but not chasing it when you throw it), demanding treats from Brett, and sneaking in at least one face lick throughout the session.
When Riley’s not working, she enjoys napping in the sun, saying hello (barking and whining) to the dogs walking by on the trail, and exploring new places for long walks. Don’t let the muscular physique or big bark fool you, she’s really the sweetest pup who makes friends with everyone she meets!
